The Red Pump Project

The Red Pump Project

I was made aware of this organization through fellow blogger LaTavia of Nine to fly and immediately wanted to be apart of the movement.  The Red Pump Project is an organization which raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women in girls.  This organization was founded in 2009 by Luvvie Ajayi and Karyn Watkins.  The red pump is used to empower and symbolize the strength and courage of women infected by this disease.  The red pump also shows that awareness is ALWAYS in style.  Find out more about this organization here.

I remember the first time I ever heard of the term HIV/AIDS I was about 7 or 8 years old and my Uncle suddenly became ill and not too long (3-4 months) after he was in an hospital dying from the disease.  A few years later I saw the movie And the band plays on and became aware that this was a serious disease that affected millions very quickly.  I try to do as much as I can to support different causes aimed at HIV/AIDS awareness because I was affected by this disease through losing my one and only uncle.  I lost someone I truly loved and only have vague memories of this person because of the disease, I still cant listen to Boys II Men's song end of the road without becoming emotional because it takes me back to that sad day we buried my uncle. So here is my ode to the red pump project because awareness IS always in style.
